Bloating: Foods to avoid to prevent a swollen stomach
Here is a list of foods that may be responsible for bloating. Rather than systematically eliminating them all, we advise you to remove them one by one from your diet and note your reaction, for example, when you reintroduce them.
- Large, fatty meals
- Fast food to avoid!
- Sauce, fatty meat, fried food
- Fruit right after meals
- Overripe fruit
- Cruciferous vegetables (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts...)
- The peas
- Potatoes
- Asparagus
- Legumes
- Onion, garlic, shallot, leek
- Wheat or oat cereals
- Corn
- Soft drinks and beer
Habits to prioritize

- Go for a walk after the meal. It stimulates your body and therefore your intestines.
- Drink teas and herbal teas regularly.
- Add a few drops of mint, cinnamon or ginger extract to a glass of water.
- Before meals, you can take natural products containing activated charcoal, which reduce bloating. Angelica, fennel, basil, thyme, and sage are also said to have significant antispasmodic and digestive effects.
- Gradually add fiber to your diet and drink plenty of water to reduce the risk of constipation.
- If you really like legumes, soak them for at least one night before cooking them.
- Digestive enzymes taken before meals can also help reduce and even eliminate bloating. Discuss this with your doctor.
If, despite your efforts to change your diet, you still experience significant gas, it could be a sign of an underlying health issue. In this case, it's best to consult your doctor.
